Introduction to Thread Painting

Thread Painting is a fun embellishment technique that uses thread and your sewing machine to create one-of-a-kind quilts, wall hangings, or whatever you want! We’ll use metallic, variegated, and embroidery threads to “paint” a panel of quilting fabric.  
For ages 14 & up.

 

Class Level: Two Spools (you should be comfortable using your machine, changing threads (we’ll do that a lot), and winding bobbins (we use a lot of bobbin thread), 

 

Requirements:

1, Sewing machine in good working order with the ability to either drop or cover your feed dogs

2. Darning (or free motion embroidery) foot

3. Three bobbins with neutral-colored thread

4.  Basic sewing supplies

5. Metallic needles

6. 8 Inch embroidery hoop (wood or plastic)

7. Your creativity!

 

Class size: Minimum 2 students; maximum 5 students

 

Class supplies (provided by the shop):

 

  1.       One square from panel “Colorful Birds” per student
  2.       Batting, slightly larger than panel
  3.       Plain fabric backing, slightly larger than panel
  4.       Selection of metallic, variegated, and embroidery threads
